1. Introduction
At Canuckduck, we are committed to providing users with timely and relevant information while ensuring a structured and non-intrusive communication experience. This policy outlines how notifications, issue tracking, and emergency alerts function within the platform to balance engagement with user autonomy.
2. Notification Preferences & Delivery Timing
2.1 Notification Frequency & User Control
Users can manage their notification preferences in their profile settings, choosing from the following options:
- Weekly Digest (Default): Consolidated email sent every Friday at 12PM containing all tracked issue updates.
- Daily Updates (Optional): Consolidated email sent daily at 12PM with all relevant issue updates.
- Critical Updates Only: Only receives major funding decisions, final approvals, and urgent community votes.
- Mute All Notifications: No automatic notifications; users must manually check updates in Flightplan.
Users will never receive more than one notification per cycle (daily or weekly), preventing excess communication.
2.2 Structured 12PM Delivery
- All notifications (daily & weekly) are sent at 12PM local time.
- This structured approach ensures updates are received at an optimal time for engagement without causing disruption.
- No notifications will be sent at random times to prevent unnecessary distractions.
3. Subscribing to Issue Updates
Users may subscribe to receive updates on specific issues they are interested in by selecting “Follow this Issue” within Flightplan.
Subscribed users will receive: ✅ Milestone updates (e.g., funding secured, vendor selection completed). ✅ Requests for action (e.g., surveys, missing budget estimates). ✅ Final decisions (e.g., government approval, issue closure).
Unsubscribed users will not receive issue-specific updates unless they opt in.
4. AI-Driven Issue Status & Stalled Project Alerts
Canuckduck uses AI to detect stalled issues where progress has slowed due to missing information. If an issue lacks key details (e.g., vendor quotes, budget estimates, required forms), it will be publicly labeled:
- 🟡 Minor Stalled: Missing minor details.
- 🟠 Critical Stalled: Needs immediate resolution.
- 🔴 Deadlocked: No movement; community intervention required.
Subscribers to a stalled issue will receive a structured notification prompting engagement to resolve missing details.
5. Emergency Notifications
5.1 Criteria for Emergency Alerts
Emergency notifications override user preferences and are sent immediately only under strict conditions: ✅ Urgent public action is required (e.g., a last-minute government vote requiring immediate feedback). ✅ Emergency funding approvals or withdrawals (e.g., rapid-response funds for disaster relief). ✅ Public safety or critical infrastructure is affected (e.g., sudden cancellation of essential community projects).
Examples of true emergencies: 🚨 "City Council votes tomorrow on [Project Name]. Public input required today." 🚨 "Emergency housing fund deadline approaching—urgent action needed." 🚨 "Government has revoked funding for [Project Name]. Community response required."
Non-emergency situations (e.g., minor funding delays, vendor selection processes) will not trigger immediate alerts.
5.2 One-Way Emergency Notifications
- No read receipts or tracking—Canuckduck does not monitor who reads emergency alerts.
- Users cannot opt out of emergency notifications, ensuring essential civic engagement is maintained.
- Only one emergency alert per issue—no repeated pings unless a second emergency occurs.
6. Government Partnerships & Form Generation
Canuckduck is developing structured templates to automatically format project data into required government forms for municipal and provincial approvals.
Users will be able to: ✅ Auto-generate submission-ready forms for funding requests, zoning applications, and approvals. ✅ Review and modify pre-filled forms before submission. ✅ Reduce bureaucratic friction by ensuring all required details align with government expectations.
Future goals include direct API integration with municipal/provincial agencies for seamless submissions.
7. User Responsibilities & Engagement
- Users are responsible for managing their notification preferences within their profile.
- Subscribing to issues is voluntary, and users can unsubscribe at any time.
- Emergency alerts are rare and require user awareness for urgent civic participation.
- Canuckduck provides information and tools but does not enforce engagement—users are responsible for their own participation.
8. Changes to This Policy
Canuckduck may update this policy as the platform evolves. Users will be notified of major changes, and a log of updates will be available on the Canuckduck website.
